Arrangements
Michael has been performing, recording, teaching, writing and arranging music in Sydney for the last 17 years. Since completing an Assoc. Diploma in Jazz Studies at the Sydney Conservatorium in 1992, Michael has become a recognised artist on the local jazz scene, performing with the likes of Mike Nock, Judy Bailey, Rod White, Tim Oram Big Band, Son Veneno, Club Havana, Buzz Band and many other artists and groups of note; particularly the RAAF Air Command Band with which he has been the jazz trumpeter for the last 4 years.

Apart from jazz, Mike enjoys venturing into different styles of music and has had extensive experience in the classical, rock, salsa, cabaret, avant garde and funk genres.

In 1995 Mike formed the ten-piece jazz ensemble Selah, for which he is the band leader and principal composer. He has taken the group on tours around country NSW and Victoria, as well as Turkey in 2001 and Kazakhstan in 2002. He has also produced two CDs with this group.

Mike has a passion to see young people grow in their love and experience of music. He has been teaching brass students of all ages privately as well as in formal school programmes continuously for the last 17 years and has had the pleasure of seeing some of his students pursue careers in music performance and music education. He has held teaching posts at Loreto Normanhurst, Chatswood High School, Northern Beaches Christian School and various primary schools. He has also conducted concert bands, big bands and has taken workshops and master classes across Sydney’s northern region and acted as adjudicator at the Yamaha Band Festival.

Mike currently lives in North Ryde with his wife and two sons and is an active member of Christian City Church Lane Cove. He enjoys social soccer, tennis, table tennis and surfing, and has a love of fine wines, hot curries, great coffee and classic recordings. 2007 will see him leave the RAAF to further pursue his passion for teaching and performing, intending to record later in the year under his own name for the first time.
